Our Vision

Our vision is to put sport within the reach of every Calgarian, no matter their background, ability or income.

Sport for Calgary is a registered charitable foundation dedicated to elevating the health and wellness of our community through sport. The foundation has been created to align with, and directly support, the City of Calgary’s Sport for Life policy

We exist to elevate the health of Calgarians by removing barriers to participation in sport through investment in affordability, accessibility and education.

Our purpose is based on four core pillars:

  • Removing financial barriers to participation in sport

  • Enhancing access to sport facilities and infrastructure

  • Providing fitness and recreational opportunities that promote health

  • Advancing research and understanding of the health benefits of sport

Who Benefits

Through its grants, the Foundation will advance the development of sport programs, facilities and organizations.

The Sport for Calgary Foundation is funded by donors, sponsors, other foundations and our own fundraising activities, and provides capital and program grants to support health and wellness through the development of sport.

The foundation exists to support the not-for-profit pursuit of sport at all ages and abilities, and grants will be based on need. We will provide grants for sport programs, facilities and organizations.

Ultimately, the individuals who benefit most are members of our community who do not currently have access to sport, or cannot afford to participate.

Imagine a young basketball player who is the first in their family to go to university, thanks to a scholarship they receive due in large part to their basketball skills. Sport gives them an education. Or a student from a troubled home finding a new family: their teammates.

Sport can keep our community healthy, both mentally and physically, by creating a stronger community fabric, improving health and wellness, building citizens with character, and strengthening our connections to each other, which in turn make Calgary a better place for all.
